Taking a Break

The Power of Focus
The Joy of Following Your Heart

As a business owner, it can be difficult to find time to get away from your business.  But, taking regular time away can refresh and renew your energy and your creativity.  It will make you more effective with your business when you are not immersed in it all the time.  In July, I took a whole day (gasp!) got out of the office and attended a Business Transformation Workshop hosted by Sherri Garrity from the Corporate Fugitive.  It was a day jam packed with helpful information, inspiring entrepreneurs, great tips and ideas for marketing and of course, delicious food!  I came away with more energy and a clear idea of how I can streamline my marketing efforts.  It was a very worthwhile day and of course, we took a Joy picture as well!

When was the last time you took a break from your regular routine?  What did you do?  What effect did it have on your energy, creativity and Joy?  Share your experiences here – I’d love to hear about them!

My husband and I took a rare morning off – one
day this week when an inch and a half of rain
came down (again). We drove 2 towns over and
went for brunch! We both struggle with taking time
away from the farm – yet it was so obvious how re-
freshed we were on our way home. We tackled the
rest of the day with a lightness that often isn’t
there when it rains and we have so much work out
in the field to do. Choice, choice, choice. I always
    have choices!
    Thanks Deb.

  2. Hi Deb, you know I am a big believer in taking time away. If you don’t create the space, you can’t create. It took me a long time to slow down from the corporate rat race pace we become conditioned to when I quit my job to go out on my own. You would not recognize me if you knew me then. The old employee me would not – take time in the day to go ride my horse (the old me wouldn’t have got the horse either), walk my dog, or take a walk – start the day with soothing music and quiet time instead of jumping in to get as much done as humanly possible – make a policy of not working most Fridays. All of these things allow me to be more creative, more effective with my clients, and more grounded. Balancing this with investing in educational development, masterminding with other business owners and regularly asking “what do I want from this business and how can I improve the experience for my clients” keep my business and myself in a happy JOYful place!
p.s. I loved having you at the last workshop!!!
