Let the Challenge Begin! (week one of the 100 Day Challenge)
I have to say my 100 Day Challenge started off on quite an enjoyable note! For some reason, the beginning of the challenge often coincides with me taking a holiday and so February 5th found me going for my first walk in Chicago’s O’Hare Airport! Nice easy walking in a comfortable environment. The hardest part was not stopping at the chocolate store or the popcorn kiosk that I had heard so much about! (Don’t worry, I went back after I finished my walk!). The next day I did my walk on board a cruise ship – three times around the upper deck was exactly 21 minutes! Again, nice easy walking and very comfortable conditions. To be honest, I hadn’t been looking forward to having to walk outside in our cold, winter weather so for the first week of the challenge I definitely caught a break.
Day three of the challenge was again, a lovely stroll around the ship’s deck although I did have to adjust for the motion of the boat (something I won’t have to do now that I am back on solid ground). Day four was a nice long walk around the village of Costa Maya and down the pier to get back on the ship. It was in the rain but hey, I was still wearing shorts and a t-shirt! We got lost trying to find our room on the ship so the additional two rounds on deck 8 added to our walking time!
Day five was in Cozumel and we started the day by doing the Amazing Cozumel Race! We walked and ran for about 2 hours that morning and were definitely ready for lunch by the time the race ended! Day six we were at sea all day making our way back to Miami but we managed to work in some walking in between listening to great bands all day! Day seven was a nice long walk on Miami Beach! I was definitely being spoiled by the lovely walking environments in the first week!
How was your first week? Did you notice any resistance to doing your 100 Day activity every day? Feel free to comment on how your week was or comment on mine – I am excited to hear from you!
Joyfully,
Deb
My Challenge to myself was to start to photograph, things in my life everyday. So I have been taking my camera with me everywhere, and I am taking pictures of things as they go by. It really adds a different perspective to going about your day. Your eye changes, because you look either to take a picture or not, to pay attention or not, to see the moment differently. I have found that over the past two weeks that I look forward to certain moments I know I am going to be able to use my Camera, and I am getting over being shy about using my camera. So it is progress.
Thanks for the Challenge
how nice to do a cruise!
my first week went A-okay – put on the perdomitor
and made sure I did at least 10,000 steps a day and did some stairs at least 5 times a week- as well I have been trying my hardest to eat more healthly by getting those vitamins and minerals in via food, making a shopping list and sticking to it helps,(tofu, broccoli, beans, brussell sprouts anyone?!)
🙂
I was very excited to get into some serious writing and it felt sooo good to get close to completing my second novel and continue on another one. I managed 4 days out of the first 14 then took very ill with a bronchial infection. Headaches were relentless so writing was out of the question. Still recovering but head cleared so will get back into it as of today. All the best to everyone. Your creative walking sounds simply divine, Deb.
Hey Deb: My challenge started out really great too – got back to going to the gym and did 40 minutes a day – got the the elliptical too! I have an issue with my knee so I was glad I was able to get back to the gym – the second week though has had some setbacks due to a death in the family. It is Trappers now and I will be meeting up with friends at the Legion for some great times – this will help lift my spirit and my husbands spirit as it was his siter that we say goodbye to on Monday coming up. Death is hard but it is a part of life – we will miss but I for one am glad she is in a better place now. I have a busy week coming up in the city and plan to get at least 30 minutes of walking in. Thanks for helping out with this challenge
Cheers

You had a question about how each of us stays motivated. I personally read a magazine for women 40 and over – it has a lot of great info and especially health and self help articles – I go back to them over and over again – February is Healty Heart Month – so the articles in there help me to remember that I am the only one who can take care of my future and my health is absolutely key to a long life! If you have never seen this mag pick it up – you’ll want your own subscription.
Cheers

Great stuff everyone! You can see why this is called a “challenge”, can’t you! Some of you are seeing the way it can transform you, you are noticing how things are getting a bit easier and for others, you are seeing how you can get knocked off course. What I am so pleased to see is how all of you are still planning to stick with the challenge, even if it has to be modified a bit in order to deal with the other challenges that life throws at you. Thank you for sharing your experiences so far – you will be an inspiration for others!
