A Surprising Cause of Sleep Interruptions

I rolled over in bed and looked at the clock.

3:28 am

About 45minutes since I last looked at the clock and … was this the second or third time I’ve woken up I wondered.

I lay in the dark, frustrated about repeatedly waking up.  Of course, my mind then started to go into its usual lament about how tired I was going to feel in the morning and I wouldn’t be able to get much done because I would probably have to have a nap to get through the day, blah, blah, blah….

I don’t know about you but once my mind gets going in the night it can be challenging to go back to sleep.  I must have gone back to sleep though, because suddenly I was fumbling around to shut off my alarm. 

I lay in bed feeling a bit stunned when it dawned on me that there might be a good explanation for my interrupted sleep.  I got out of bed and checked my calendar.  Ha! I found the culprit.  It was a full moon!

While there are many things that can interrupt your sleep – noise, too much sugar, snoring, pain, health issues, hormone imbalances, worries, etc. – we don’t often think of the moon impacting our sleep.  Yet the moon can disrupt ours leep along with our daily rhythms.  The moon can also help us to get the sleep and rest we need when we stop resisting this natural cycle. 

I’ll be teaching about how the moon plays a role in your health and wellness and the ways that you can tune into the moon cycles to improve your sleep and overall well being at my women’s retreat on October 13th.  You might be surprised to learn that you can easily manage a few nights of interrupted sleep without feeling exhausted the next day!
